Goodbye Couch Potato... (& a list)

Last week I mentioned that I was going to start a fitness program called Couch Potato to 5K Runner. So, this morning, I got up early to start my program. I was pretty excited about it - I'm hoping to drop a few pounds before a trip, and I'm thinking this is a great start at that.

So I get up this morning, get dressed, brush my teeth, find my sneakers, back upstairs - I forgot socks. Get my cell & my hat. The first week of the program starts with a 5 minute walk, followed by alternating 90 seconds of walking with 60 seconds of jogging - all for a total of 20 minutes - so, I need to find something to time myself. I finally decided on my kitchen timer to do the job. Now, it's a 30 minutes later, and still I'm not out the door.

Finally I leave my house and start my program - Ok, I am so reved up about this! I get through the 5 minute walk and start my first 60 second jog - I start slow, I am NOT a runner, and am about 15 lbs overweight. Timer beeps, I can start to walk again. I decided to change the program for this week to 60 sec of jogging & 120 seconds of walking - it's easier for me to time it this way.

The timer beeps again... I start jogging... I am starting to sweat (YUCK!!!) ... I'm huffing and puffing... now I jog slower to catch my breath... I am acutely aware of the cell phone, kitchen timer & pedometer that are all bouncing against the waist band of my pocketless shorts... I'm thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea... Thank goodness the timer beeps again! Oh boy this is so sad. :-)

I am proud to say, I did finish the first day of the program, and sitting here right now, I am thinking - Oh my goodness - I am pathetic to even write this on my blog - but I am doing it to hopefully encourage anyone else to join me in my quest to be more fit. I made it through day one, and I am excited (at least right now) to start again on Wednesday. Oh yeah, I am actually hoping (for a change) that no one actually reads my ramblings, but just come here for the lists...

Wish me luck! :-)

You are so wonderful to make these lists for us! Thank you....and just for encouragement....I too have started a summer workout program and have finally been able to fit some pants that I have been staring at for about a year and a half now. Not that they weren't a little snug, but at least I got my butt in there! hehehe I have always wanted to be a runner so I will have to look into that program to see if I can give it a go.

OKay I am here.. and I have so THAT IS SOOO MARVELOUS that you are excersizing that way.. and like you.. I have some Extra weight to shed.. but much more than 15 lbs.. and I think there should be some sort of challenge huh? Because I would do this sort of activity with you.. I just need motivation and such.. how come there isn't a Store or something that has some sort of POT... we all put in some money the store holds it and whoever loses the most PERCENTAGE OF weight in a set period of time wins the pot.... Wouldn't that be SWEET??? OMG I have to post this somewhere else too.. THAT would motivate me...WOULDN"T that movtivate you??? LOL

HUGS off to run with this idea.. I will keep you updated... I hope you like the Idea.. and YOU SHOULD BE credited as well for MOTIVATING the idea. LOL :) HUGS:)

Happy, Thanks so much for your post, I needed a good laugh. I also needed some encouragement to get some excercise, I won't even tell you how many hours a day I spend on the computer. Thanks again for posting part 4 of Eastern Spice. Good Luck!

First - Thanks for your lists! They are great!

I've been meaning to start the Couch Potato to 5K runner program too, but can't seem to get my butt out of bed in the morning! I am going to try to go to bed earlier though so it is easier...

Good luck!

Congrats on your first day of getting up and going. It is so hard to exercise and keep it up. Think positive, you can do it. Thanks for the list today also.

If you have an ipod or mp3 player, you should check out the Couch To 5K podcasts at Richard Ullrey's site... www.podcasts.ullreys.net. They are awesome and tell you when to run/walk, etc... Good luck with it! I just ran my first 5K last month, and it felt great! Don't push yourself ahead of schedule though, it's well worth doing each week as it suggests.
