Couch Potato Day 2

Day 2 of my Couch Potato to 5K program was much better than day 1. Ok, maybe I just had different issues today. I'll let you decide.

I got up late today (DD1 was up 2x's last night - very unusual for her). I was able to get myself out the door with no hassles in about 15 minutes today. Turn on the timer, and here I go. I start the 5 minute warm up walk... towards the end of the 5 minutes, I realize that it is extremely hot & muggy (81 degrees by 6:55 am!) I am starting to sweat just from the heat. The next thing I notice is a very pungent odor - oh my goodness, it's garbage day on my street - it just stinks - ugh! Think positive - it's motivation to move faster, right? Okay, so now I'm at the first 60 seconds of jogging - make sure I breath that lovely smelling air - and now I notice that the sports bra I am wearing today is not really holding up - so to speak - mental note to self, either wash one from Monday often, or stop at Target to get another.

Okay, I'm dealing with the bra issue, and the stench - turn the corner and now I am sweating profusely, and I am now following a garbage truck, and have no options to change my path - pick up the pace girl - get past the truck - for fear alone that something disgusting may fly off of the truck and smack me straight in the face.

I made it through day 2 and after a cool shower, I feel great - energized and ready to tackle my day. Thanks everyone for the encouragement, and let me know if you are trying the program too!

Goodbye Couch Potato... (& a list)

Last week I mentioned that I was going to start a fitness program called Couch Potato to 5K Runner. So, this morning, I got up early to start my program. I was pretty excited about it - I'm hoping to drop a few pounds before a trip, and I'm thinking this is a great start at that.

So I get up this morning, get dressed, brush my teeth, find my sneakers, back upstairs - I forgot socks. Get my cell & my hat. The first week of the program starts with a 5 minute walk, followed by alternating 90 seconds of walking with 60 seconds of jogging - all for a total of 20 minutes - so, I need to find something to time myself. I finally decided on my kitchen timer to do the job. Now, it's a 30 minutes later, and still I'm not out the door.

Finally I leave my house and start my program - Ok, I am so reved up about this! I get through the 5 minute walk and start my first 60 second jog - I start slow, I am NOT a runner, and am about 15 lbs overweight. Timer beeps, I can start to walk again. I decided to change the program for this week to 60 sec of jogging & 120 seconds of walking - it's easier for me to time it this way.

The timer beeps again... I start jogging... I am starting to sweat (YUCK!!!) ... I'm huffing and puffing... now I jog slower to catch my breath... I am acutely aware of the cell phone, kitchen timer & pedometer that are all bouncing against the waist band of my pocketless shorts... I'm thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea... Thank goodness the timer beeps again! Oh boy this is so sad. :-)

I am proud to say, I did finish the first day of the program, and sitting here right now, I am thinking - Oh my goodness - I am pathetic to even write this on my blog - but I am doing it to hopefully encourage anyone else to join me in my quest to be more fit. I made it through day one, and I am excited (at least right now) to start again on Wednesday. Oh yeah, I am actually hoping (for a change) that no one actually reads my ramblings, but just come here for the lists...

Wish me luck! :-)

Here's a list for ya!

Tip - Such a time Saver

I just wanted to stop back and tell you that I'm in the middle of making a new LO. I was looking for these great little Doodled Hearts that I DL the other day, and I was having trouble finding them. I looked through at least 100 folders. Then, I remembered that I could search for them in my Picasa Software. I found them in about 15 seconds. I love this thing! I have all my kits loaded in, and I can just search by the file name, designer, color, or something else, and it will show me pics of all the files that have that in the name. I didn't even have to categorize them! I can't believe how much time it saved me. You can get it for Free at Googles site, or you can get it for free above this post or at the bottom of my page - it's part of the FREE Google Pack.

Another LO

Quick Update here: I just found the coolest plug ins. Get it here. It works on PS, PSE (I have PSE3 & it works great). Follow the directions in the read me file to install, and use them from the filter menu at the top, not your filters box on the side. Ok, what do they do, you ask? They will make your pictures fab. You can do dreamy effects, sepia, B&W, newspaper, and about 20 others, and the best part... IT'S FREE, so run over an get it. If you need help, just let me know!

I've got another LO I'm posting. This one was super fast, cause I used a Quick Page for it.

"Free" Time

Okay, any idea what I'm doing right now? Nope, I'm not making a list for ya - Hah! I am downloading books on cd to my DD's Fisher Price Kid Tough FP3 Player. I've got to listen to the stories to make sure that they are loading correctly. I had one not work so well recently. I've got to say I love this thing.

I read to my kids a ton - and we have more books than some libraries, but there are times when she could use some more independent activities (like when her sister is at the dr's office, and I'm trying so hard to listen to his directions ) It will be great for the long car rides we have coming this summer too. If you've got little kids, I recommend it - it's really sturdy (been dropped more times than I can count, and still works great). You can DL music & Stories from the Fisher Price site , or you can download your own, if you have them on CD (won't let you do MP3 Files, I've tried).

My Grandmother gave my DD a set of Weekly Reader books that came with the Book's on CD's. So, I'm listening to :

Curious George & the Birthday Surprise by Margret & H A Rey's (I love Curious George, he reminds me of my kids!)

Night-Night Spot by Eric Hill

Little Quack's Hide & Seek by Lauren Thompson

Officer Buckle & Gloria by Peggy Rathmann.

The player has tons of space on it, and you can add an SD card if you need it. I'll be off to Target to find some good Music CD's to load on. Any suggestions that might be good for the pre-schooler set?

Ok, I'm just about done, ready for bed, and even had my bedtime story - heehee. So, I'll stop boring you. :-P
Have a good night!

PSA & a Freebie List!

Hey Scrappers!

I've got a new list for you today, but first, please read this link to make sure that you yourself are not commiting Digital Piracy. We all know that it's not okay to steal, but we need to make sure that we all undertand just what that means. It's okay to say, "hey, go here to find this great thing", but it's not okay to say "here, let me give you this great thing", unless of course, you made it yourself. :-)

BTW, you may have noticed that I have added some advertising links to my blog... I haven't decided how I feel about it yet. I have added them, in part, to justify blog time to my DH. If I made a little cash for my blogging time, I think he might feel better about it. I feel a little bit like I am selling out. I'd love to have some opinions from other bloggers who use ads. How do you feel about them? I'm debating on keeping them, or switching to links and blinkies of my fav spots. They don't really get a lot of hits, cause most folks come here for Free stuff!

Ok, now I've done my PSA, here is your list! :-)
